THE CURRENT DEBATE ABOUT THE SECRET There's a serious drama raging in the media and on the Internet that has us baffled. It concerns the meteoric rise in popularity of “The Secret” DVD and book. (In a single week, it was on the front page of USA Today, the topic of NY Times Columnist Maureen Dowd, the same week it hit #3 on the Bestseller List, and Oprah devoted TWO recent shows to it which led to a Newsweek article, Anderson Cooper and The Today Show. Now that's a lot of attention!) “The Secret” that is revealed during the DVD is the Law of Attraction. Simply stated, the Law of Attraction means "like attracts like," and as a result, “thoughts create things.” The media has taken potshots at Rhonda Byrne, and Law of Attraction, by association. They accuse her of everything from stealing the idea from any number of dead authors including Walter Wattles, Napoleon Hill, Norman Vincent Peale, and many, many others. They also accuse her of having too much success. And they accuse her of being completely and totally wrong. Some call it “the latest snake oil,” others call it “dangerous” because it might give someone a false sense of hope. So here's what baffles us - there is nothing new about Law of Attraction. Sages and teachers have been teaching the principles for years. “Ask and ye shall receive.” There are many teachers today sharing the wisdom, and it's readily accessible in the Teachings of Abraham with Jerry & Esther Hicks. Rhonda Byrne did not create the Law of Attraction. But she IS helping to bring it into the mainstream by saying it in a way people are hearing. “The Celestine Prophesy” had that effect on me in 1994, as did “Conversations With God” a few years later. It is all part of the great sea change of consciousness. Ironically, the negative attention is only serving to give Law of Attraction even more buzz! And something really big is happening as more and more people take responsibility for their own life experience. Of course, with any huge shift, skeptics and nay-sayers are obliged to dissent. The interesting thing about Law of Attraction is that it's operating in our lives whether or not we're consciously aware of it, or believe in it. (In other words, if you think you can or if you think you can't, you're right!) It's like gravity. You don't have to think about it - it just is. All we know for sure is that we've both consciously followed this path for many years, and it just gets better and better every day. These are, without a doubt, the MOST wonderful, rich, fresh and exciting years of our lives. The main key to learning how to use Law of Attraction is to pay attention to your emotions. Strong emotion, whether joy or anger, is the alchemical ingredient. What you feel is what you'll get.
